Are Fender necks better than Squier?
For the Fender Standard line, I have found that finish is thinner and with fewer imperfections than Squier, especially in key areas such as the neck pocket and neck. The satin finish necks also feel smoother in the hand.
Will a MIM neck fit a Squier?
A Fender neck will fit. It’s more likely that the Bullet neck was too wide. However, my experiences with other Squiers has been more mixed. A Squier Strat that I bought on eBay happened to be to Fender dimensions.

Fender uses ash, alder, and occasionally mahogany. Currently Squier usually uses Agathis (a.k.a poor man’s mohogany), occasionally alder and pine. Necks I don’t know, they’re both made of maple and/or rosewood, I don’t know if there is a lesser maple. My guess is they save a buck by going cheap on the finish and fret.
Are all bass necks interchangeable?
Yes, they are interchangable, if the number of frets are the same. A 22 fret Fender neck will not work on a “20 fret” Fender body. It will physically fit, but you will not be able to intonate it.
