The Officer Separation process starts with the Soldier submitting his REFRAD (Release from Active Duty) or UQR (Unqualified Resignation) packet thru his Brigade S-1 in accordance with AR 600-8-24 for approval by his chain of command. Once approved by the command, the packet is sent to HRC by the Brigade S-1.

When can I submit my Refrad packet?

According to the Army Regulation for Officer Transfers and Discharges, if you would like to request a Release from Active Duty (REFRAD), you should do so between six and 12 months before the date you would like to exit the Army.
